Offering peace and liberation to ancestors
Hindus believe ancestors (pitru) depend on the living to perform shraddh — offerings of pind (rice balls), water (tarpan) and food — for their onward journey and liberation (moksha). Done at Kashi, on the bank of the Ganga, the rite is held to carry the greatest merit, especially during Pitru Paksha. A qualified Pandit Ji guides every step.
Best time: Pitru Paksha (the dark fortnight of Ashwin), or any amavasya
This is a solemn family duty, not a tourist activity. A full guide — the season, the step-by-step rite, the ghats, what to bring and fair-price guidance — is on our Pind Daan & Shraddh page.
Explained for understanding and respect — practices vary by tradition, family and Pandit Ji.
